Present and defend a nuanced position with sophistication
At B2, an opinion essay must demonstrate sophistication: a clear, qualified thesis, structured argumentation, concession of counter-arguments, and a conclusion that shows critical depth rather than simply repeating the introduction.
At B2, avoid absolute statements. Qualify your thesis with nuance from the start.
Support each argument with specific evidence and evaluate it. Use reporting verbs and hedging language.
At B2, the concession-rebuttal move is more nuanced: acknowledge the force of the opposing view before explaining why it does not change your conclusion.
The B2 conclusion does not simply repeat — it synthesises, qualifies the original thesis in light of the arguments, and may suggest a way forward.
