Preposiciones de lugar
in · on · under · next to · behind — dónde están las cosas
Las preposiciones de lugar más comunes. El español usa "en" para las dos primeras, pero el inglés las distingue:

El gato está en la caja.

El gato está debajo de la cama.

The cat is under the bed.
El error más frecuente: "The book is in the table" es incorrecto — el libro no está dentro de la mesa. La superficie pide on.
Next to y beside son intercambiables y significan "al lado de". Between significa "entre" dos cosas.
El banco está al lado del supermercado.

The bank is next to the supermarket.
Siéntate a mi lado.
→
Sit beside me.
El parque está entre la iglesia y el colegio.
→
The park is between the church and the school.
Atención con between: en inglés se dice "between A and B", nunca "between A y B". La conjunción siempre es and.

Hay un coche delante de la casa.

in front of vs opposite: in front of es "delante de" (mismo lado); opposite implica cruzando la calle o mirando cara a cara.

Superficie → siempre on, no "in".
She sits in front me.

In front of lleva siempre of al final.
The park is between the school y the church.

The park is between the school and the church.
Después de between se usa and, nunca "y".
My house is near of the park.
→
My house is near the park.
Near no lleva "of" — va directo al sustantivo.
