Exercises
1Rewrite: "People say that the economy is recovering."
Two structures: (1) It + passive + that clause. (2) Subject + passive + to-infinitive.
2Rewrite: "Someone repaired my roof last week."
Causative "have + object + past participle" = I arranged for someone to do it.
3Rewrite: "They gave her a scholarship."
Double-object passive: the indirect object (her) becomes the subject.
4Rewrite (past reference): "People believe he escaped last night."
"Is believed to have + past participle" shows the action happened before the current belief.
5Add a modal passive: "Someone should complete the project today."
Modal + be + past participle. The agent is removed — focus is on the action.
6Rewrite: "Scientists are testing the vaccine at the moment."
Present passive continuous: is/are + being + past participle.
