8 Qs · complex affixes
Part 3 — Word Formation
Eight gaps, with a root word in capitals to transform. CPE requires complex changes: multiple affixes, negative prefixes, sometimes irregular forms.
Strategy
- Identify the required word class precisely
- Check for both prefix AND suffix changes (e.g. ABLE → INABILITY)
- Negative prefixes are very common: un-, in-, dis-, mis-, ir-, im-, il-, non-
- Look out for plurals and tense forms
- Some answers are compound: NIGHT → OVERNIGHT, FALL → DOWNFALL
- Time guide: 12 minutes
