Simple Past — Irregular Verbs

What are irregular verbs?

Rule — These verbs do NOT add -ed in the past.

go — go → went

have — have → had

see — see → saw

Note — You must learn these by heart!

Common irregular verbs

be — was / were

go — went

have — had

see — saw

eat — ate

come — came

give — gave

take — took

Negative and questions

Negative — didn’t + base verb (same as regular)

Question — Did + subject + base verb (same as regular)

Example — I didn’t go. Did she see?

Warning — NOT ‘didn’t went’ — use base verb!
