When do we use 'going to'?

Plans — I am going to study tonight.

Intentions — She is going to visit her family.

Predictions — Look at those clouds — it is going to rain!

Form

Rule — am / is / are + going to + base verb

I — I am going to work.

He / She / It — She is going to work.

You / We / They — We are going to work.

Negative and questions

Negative — I’m not going to work.

Question — Are you going to work?

Short answers — Yes, I am. / No, I’m not.

Recap

Positive — She is going to work.

Negative — She isn’t going to work.
